Roundabout traffic is better but A1 is steeper

YOUR editorial last week regarding the A1 access roads, prompted me to think how all of a sudden, much of the roadworks surrounding the roundabout adjacent to the Jarvis Hotel have disappeared. What a much improved roundabout it is too.

Similarly, all of a sudden we have a new motorway service station that has crept up on us unannounced. I wonder how many readers actually know of its existence, especially as it is more or less hidden from view.

Finally, has anyone recently travelled southbound on the A1 by the racecourse on the new raised section and noticed how relatively steeply it is embanked, rather like the old Brooklands racing circuit. Is it an optical illusion, my eyes, or does it really incline inwards at a pronounced angle?
